A Tennessee vacation...
We had planned to head to the western U.S. again this year, but one of our air conditioner units went out, and so we opted for a more economical vacation close to home. My wonderful husband Ed and I spent 2 weeks (minus the 3 days in Chattanooga) camping in our trusty pop-up camper. As always it was great fun and we always seem to come back feeling closer to one another and enjoying life just a little bit more.

We went to Fall Creek Falls State Park for two nights where my best friend Peggy's son Matthew is a ranger (I still see him as that cute little 4 year old boy digging in the dirt and six year old Suzannah watching...). Peggy came up for Saturday and Sunday so we got to hang out with Peggy, Matthew and his wife Leigh Ann, children Reagan and Josh all together. Matthew even helped fix the thermostat in the Bronco that we had noticed en route there!
In Chattanooga we took a cruise on the river, rode the incline, and went to see Rock City. Yep, we did. It's the same as I remember when I was a kid.

We spent on night at Cove Lake State Park, where I worked as a naturalist for a season and enjoyed talking with some folks from New Zealand who were passing through.
En route to Kingsport, we stopped at the Museum of Appalachia and if you are ever up Norris, TN way, it's well worth the stop. A wonderful personal history of real people as well as a great assortment of whittling, homemade and handmade musical instruments, and a fine collection of old buildings including the log cabin used for the filming of the old Daniel Boone series.
We stayed at Warriors Path State Park for the longest period (5 days) where Suz and her family joined us for three days. Great fun! I got to spend time with Ian and Evelynn
and did a lot of holding baby Jess who is just as cute as a button. Jason went for a bike ride on the mountain bike trail there and did a flip over the handle bars as well as sliding off the trail a few times! Evelynn got to go pony-riding and we all went to the park's "Boundless Playground" that is handicap friendly, one of the only ones in the state.

Our next stop was the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, one of my favorites. I even talked Ed into hiking with me TWICE! I did another hike (5 miles RT on Abrams Falls trail) by myself. We stayed in Cades Cove and both bought books about the history of the place. W
e have such rich history right here in our state.
Ed did a phenomenal job with all the cooking. We had sour dough cinnamon orange sweet rolls, sour dough pancakes, hobo stew, grilled chicken... on and on. AND we ate ice cream more on vacation than we do at home!
Ah, well, it was good to get home to our kitties.
