Adelaide's 1st Birthday!!

Another quick trip to Indiana that ended much too soon again. Last Thursday was Adelaide's first birthday and her party was this past Saturday at the Borden Church. Drea was worried no one would show up, but about 30 people came to wish Addie a Happy Birthday! Drea had decorated everything so cute in a "springtime" theme, with flowers and bird houses and even a cut out for the little guests to have their pictures taken either as a flower or a bumblebee. It was so darling!


And then Adelaide got her first taste of cake and icing! Boy did she plow right into that! She kept looking around as if someone might realize she was getting into something and take it away from her.


Then came the gifts and more gifts and more gifts! She got some simply beautiful outfits and lots of fun toys, some that even make NOISE (which will get Sam back for all those noisy guns everyone used to give him for his birthday.) Just kidding, I loved it then and I love it now.

It was all too soon to say goodbye again. What a wonderful little family and I feel so blessed to be with them whenever we can.

I SOLEMNLY SWEAR THAT I WILL SUPPORT AND DEFEND...

 As the "new normal" NFL season is upon us, my Facebook friends have been posting a lot lately (again) on both side of the argument about standing or not standing for the national anthem. I get it. I mean I get both sides.  I didn't back in 2016 when Colin Kaepernick kneeled during the national anthem. I was among the scoffers saying how un-American and disrespectful it was to the flag, to those who served in the military, to our country. I even looked up the US Code 36 § 301 which states: (A) individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note; (B) members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are present but not in uniform may render the military salute in the manner provided for individuals in uniform; and (C) all other persons present should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, and men not in uniform, if applicable, should remove their headdress with ...

House Guests

Every so often we are blessed with house guests. This summer Augustine Tawiah (Dean of the Ghana Bible College where Tammie and I taught earlier this year) and his wife Lynn (a Memphis native), are multi-tasking. Augustine is taking a statistics course at the University of Memphis and Lynn is taking a teachers orientation and team-building course (she teaches at the American International School in Accra, Ghana.) These two dear friends show the Lord in all they do and I always learn so much from each of them. They never stay long enough. Another Ghanaian friend Gabriel (minister and elder at the 1000-member congregation in Kumasi) who Tammie and met in February, also visited us last week. What a gentle, precious soul he is and such a godly man. I feel humbled in his presence and his prayers of praise and thanksgiving will bless me for many years to come.
