Grandkid Tour...

Wow! What a whirlwind's trip! I logged in 2158 miles from Thursday morning till Monday night, Memphis to Princeton, WV to Springfield, VA; then the return Springfield to Louisville, KY and back to Memphis. Mom and my cousin Mary Lynn and I had a great time!

The "twins" (my uncle and my Mom) Frank and Frances got to spend the evening of their 95th birthday together. We spent the night there in Princeton where he lives and went back over the next morning for a short visit before heading East.

Mom got to visit a childhood friend of her's for a few minutes in Roanoke and then we arrived at Suz' in Springfield Friday afternoon.

Mom was happy to meet her newest great grandchild Jess Samuel Landry Foster (age 2 1/2 months) and see his siblings Ian (10) and Evelynn (5).

Saturday we headed to Lexington Park, MD, where we had a family lunch with Suzannah's other grandmother Carolyn Lepper and her Aunt Sarah and Uncle Duncan and their families. We ate at The Roost where I worked the summer after I graduated from high school (and from where I watched the moon landing that late July evening 1969.) Sarah and her daughter Lauren (who sadly wasn't able to come) just returned from Scotland where they participated in a violin class from a master violinist, so she played some highland tunes for us and also played a violin duet with Evelynn which was so much fun for all of us. Sarah's husband Terry and son Matt played the small bagpipe for us which was a real treat. It was great seeing everyone and catching up on all the news.

When I went out to the salad bar I spotted my 7th grade math teach Miss Doris Darrah having lunch and so I ran and got Mom and we had a short visit there with her. Mom was the secretary to the principal at the junior high school and so she knew Miss Darrah through that work for several years.

Sunday we went to church at Fairfax Church of Christ http://www.fxcc.org where we attended when I was stationed in that area and got to see several old friends there again.

We left Sunday afternoon, spent the night in Charleston, WV, then met Sam, Drea, and Adelaide for lunch at a Cracker Barrel in Louisville where Mom got to meet her other great grandchild born this year, Miss Adelaide (4 1/2 months). What a smiley baby!

I had a great time, but I have to say it's good to be home. I also got the good news today that I passed my oral exam and will be getting my LMFT license later this week. Yippee!!!!!!!!!
